Bean Recipes

Legumes (beans) are so important for plant-based protein. That’s why we have a whole page dedicated to bean recipes! An affordable staple that packs a super protein punch, we aim to make beans the foundation of every meal at our home. I especially love to buy dried beans. That is by far the most cost-friendly protein you can find. Plus, dried beans are so much more flavorful than canned. It is worth the extra effort to toss them in a pot, or better yet the InstantPot and you’ll have delicious beans in no time. Also, you can cook up large batches of beans to save for future meals. Yum!

Some of my favorite bean varieties include: butter beans, pinto beans, and black-eyed peas. I also highly recommend buying dried beans from the bulk section of your local natural foods store or even Whole Foods. Sometimes I like to change things up and buy some really fun specialty bean varieties that you just can’t find in the local grocery store, like Anasazi beans and cranberry beans. So many different options to explore.

The Magical Fruit

We all know the saying, but honestly, the nutritious value of beans far outweighs the negative. Plus, I have a hunch that beans cause flatulence for some because they are high in fiber, and in our fiber-starved American diets, our bodies just aren’t used to it. Once you start eating a high-fiber diet full of beans regularly, your body can digest them just fine without excessive gas. The best part—beans are high in protein and fiber, gluten-free, and of course, vegan. What a wonderful and nutritious food that everyone can enjoy.
