This 4-ingredient mango lassi is an easy, delicious breakfast or snack. I love that this version has no added sugars, only frozen mango to sweeten it up. Sometimes, when you get this drink out to eat, it can be sugar overload. I promise you this drink is delicious all on its own, no added sugar necessary. Kids will still love it too, even without the extra sweetness. We need to retrain our bodies to enjoy a natural level of sugar. There is plenty of sweet deliciousness in fruit alone; it doesn’t need a sugar boost! It is perfectly sweet just as it is.

What is a Lassi?

Lassi is a traditional yogurt drink from the Punjab region of India, dating back to 1000 B.C. An Ayurverdic drink, lassi, is traditionally made with yogurt from a water buffalo. How cool is that! Lassi can be sweet or even salty, depending on what spices are added. Although fruit lassi is common here in the U.S., traditionally, lassi in India typically consists of just spices and yogurt.

Pick Your Yogurt

You can easily make this recipe vegan by using a plant-based yogurt, and I always use cashewmilk in this smoothie for added protein. Plus, I love the neutral yet nutty flavor of cashewmilk. My favorite plant-based yogurt is Forager’s Project unsweetened cashewmilk yogurt.

If you do eat dairy, my kids and husband love to use Siggi’s Icelandic yogurt in their mango lassi’s. It is super thick like greek yogurt and packed with protein. One cup of Siggi’s yogurt has a whopping 23grams of protein.

Cardamon Delicious

I absolutely love cardamom and enjoy cooking with it regularly. If you like chai tea, then you are a fan of cardamom, as it is a dominant flavor in chai mix. Cardamom is very fragrant and has a punchy sweet and spicy flavor. You can buy cardamom in its whole pods, or the little seeds removed and ground. Some people even like to chew on the caradmom pods after a meal to improve their breath. The aromatic flavors of cardamom are delicious in tea, baked goods, and, of course, lassi smoothies.

Cardamom is not only tasty, but it is also really good for your body. According to Healthline, cardamom may lower blood pressure, may contain antioxidants, may contain cancer-fighting compounds, may help with digestive problems, including ulcers, may prevent bad breath and cavities, and may have antibacterial effects. Pretty powerful little seeds!

How to Make A Mango Lassi Smoothie

This is a super-easy smoothie to make. No chopping, peeling, or squeezing required. Just simply add frozen mango, scoops of yogurt, cashew milk, and ground cardamom to a high-powered blender and blend on high until smooth. Voilà! You are looking for a thick, almost like soft serve ice cream consistency. Add more cashewmilk if you prefer a smoother smoothie, or make it thicker for a decadent dessert in a cup. Sprinkle with some pistachios and more ground cardamom, yum!
