Hummus Pizza with Brussels Sprouts and Balsamic
I love a good crispy crust pizza and this hummus pizza is such a unique twist on a good ole classic. My husband’s Italian American family takes their pizza very seriously and we’ve been working a long time on creating the perfect crunchy pizza crust. The foundation of this pizza is a Neapolitan style pizza crust—thin and crispy. Then we load it up with lots of good stuff.
We started our pizza making adventure when our two young boys started eating 8 slices of pizza each, and pizza night out was becoming an expensive meal. I am oh so glad we started making homemade pizza. Not only is it more delicious, but it’s also less oily, has far less sodium, and above all something that the kids enjoy making. We all get involved in the pizza building process. The kids love to roll out the dough, suggest new combinations of toppings, and spread the pizza sauce. They take pride in their pizza creations!
Wait No Sauce?
After one too many red sauce pizzas we started itching for something different. We usually have a batch of hummus around, it’s savory, spreadable so why not? I guess you could call this more of a flatbread with hummus rather than a hummus pizza. But don’t tell our kids its not really “pizza”. Our favorite simple hummus recipe is this tasty lemon hummus. The hint of lemon with the brussels sprouts, caramelized onions, feta, and balsamic is divine!
This hummus pizza can easily be made vegan by using a vegan feta cheese or even substituting with vegan mozzarella. As there is very little cheese on this pizza anyway and some bold other flavors (the caramelized onions, hummus, and balsamic) you won’t miss anything.
