How to Make Pizza Sauce

How to make Pizza Sauce

Making homemade pizza sauce is easy peasy, only three ingredients required! Stop buying store-bought pizza sauce; this recipe is delicious and so quick to whip up. We use this pizza sauce on our tasty margherita pizza made with homemade pizza dough. My husband is Italian and his family owned a commercial size pizza oven when we met. Pizza is a real big deal at our house!

Take your pizza sauce to the next level

If you want to make the very best most amazing pizza sauce ever. Roughly chop up about 6 roma tomatoes and put them in a saucepot on the stove to cook them down. Add 1/4 cup of water to the tomatoes to keep them from burning, add more water if necessary while cooking. Cook them on low for about 5 minutes. Then add the garlic and oregano. Use an emulsion blender to blend the tomatoes until smooth. Thats it!

Why Roma Tomatoes?

In traditional Italian pizza sauce San Marzano tomatoes are used. San Marzano tomatoes are a prized type of tomato and to be considered authentic they can only be grown in the volcanic soil near Naples, Italy. Although San Marzano are delicious, roma tomatoes work just fine too. Plus they are much more available here in North America, and certainly easier on the budget. Heck you can even grow romas in your garden. Honestly, that is where the very best tomatoes I’ve ever eaten have been from anyway. There is nothing better than a garden ripened tomato picked at peak perfection. Yum!

Buy Tomato Sauce in Bulk

If pizza night is a weekly thing at your house too, check out Costco for a 12 pack of tomato sauce. They usually have a great price, especially for organic.

Now let’s get saucing!
